Riga Airport has once again achieved the highest Diamond category in the annual national Sustainability Index assessment organized by the Institute for Corporate Sustainability and Responsibility.
The Sustainability Index is a strategic management tool based on internationally recognized methodology, helping Latvian companies evaluate their sustainability practices and levels of corporate responsibility. The Diamond status is granted to companies that have consistently demonstrated high performance across various aspects of the work environment, the environment, society, and other sustainability factors.
To qualify for this category, participants in the Sustainability Index must maintain a Platinum level for at least five years and achieve a minimum score of 90%, not only in the overall assessment but also in each of the five sections separately. Additionally, publicly available information on the candidates' engagement with stakeholders, particularly clients and employees, is evaluated. Experts from the Sustainability Index also meet with candidates to assess their past performance regarding the work environment, the environment, their supply chain, investments in industry and national development, and their future plans for enhancing this performance.
In 2024, only seven companies received the Diamond category in the Sustainability Index.
"We are proud to be among the leaders in sustainability in Latvia this year. This achievement is a testament not only to our employees but also to our partners, with whom we work purposefully to create a clean environment, a happy and prosperous society, and a thriving economy for future generations. Thanks to the Sustainability Index, we receive highly qualified expert evaluations of our performance and valuable recommendations for further improvement," says Laila Odiņa, Chairperson of the Board at Riga Airport.
Riga Airport has participated in the Sustainability Index since 2011, entering the Bronze category in its first year. The following year, the airport improved its performance and moved up to the Silver category. Since 2016, it has been among the Gold category companies, and in 2019, it achieved the then-highest Platinum rating. In 2023, Riga Airport reached the Diamond category.
