Rail freight traffic grows by 11.85% so far this year at Valenciaport

The Valenciaport Statistical Bulletin for the month of March shows that +7.27% of all goods leaving or entering the Valencian docks do so by train. If we compare the data for the first quarter of 2024 with those for the same period in 2025, we can see an increase of +11.85% in the number of TEU’s that were handled by rail; increases that have been largely due to the collaboration between all the agents involved in this mode of transport. In the January-March period, Valenciaport trains transported 60,430 containers.

Ro-Ro traffic (maritime ro-ro services, lorries, platforms…) has also grown in the first three months of the year by +1.81%, reaching 3.39 million tonnes. While the UTI’s (Intermodal Transport Units) managed at Valenciaport’s docks have grown by +3.87%.

China and the USA remain Valenciaport’s main trading partners, the sum of the traffic of the ports managed by Valenciaport with both countries so far this year represents 285,064 TEU’s exchanged. China continues to lead the list with 190,412 TEUs handled in this same period (+19.42%) and 2,032,560 tonnes (+11.97%). For its part, the USA is in second place with 94,652 TEUs exchanged with North American ports (+11.13%) and 1,490,825 tonnes (+12.99%).

About exports (full containers of outgoing cargo) and imports (unloading), positive values are maintained in 2025. In this sense, the Valencian enclosures show increases in cargo traffic (full containers leaving Valenciaport) of +7.32%. Specifically, according to Valenciaport’s Statistical Bulletin for March, full TEU (6.1-metre-long containers) traffic to other countries in the world totalled 221,170 in the first quarter. For their part, import containers arriving at the Valencian docks totalled 248,696 in this period, which represents an increase (compared to the same period last year) of +19.25%.

The magnitudes of the first quarter reflected in the PAV Statistical Bulletin also indicate that the total number of passengers transiting through the terminals of the Port of València was 191,164 people (-9.14%). Of these, 134,354 were regular line passengers and 56,810 were cruise passengers. Overall, the companies working with Valenciaport handled 19.17 million tonnes through its terminals (-1.49%). In terms of containers, traffic in the first quarter totalled 1,294,064 TEUs (twenty-foot containers), i.e. a growth of +3.35%.
