With the expansion of the route network to include the Düsseldorf — Budapest connection, Helrom now offers an even greater range for sustainable and barrier-free intermodal freight transport in Europe. The new route enables shippers and freight forwarders to reduce CO₂ emissions by up to 90 percent while using a reliable and efficient transport solution.
The connection is operated as an open train, where fixed contingents can be booked as needed. The terminal-free loading of Helrom trains also offers small and medium-sized companies an easy way to shift all types of truck trailers to rail without additional investment in their fleet. Helrom ensures reliable and punctual delivery for every transport.
The connection between Düsseldorf and Budapest will commence operations on October 2. It stretches over 1,200 kilometers. Freight forwarders can deliver their trailers until late in the evening. After just 30 hours, they will be ready for collection at their destination the morning after next. Daily departures are planned in both directions six days a week. Each train transports 36 trailers, which corresponds to a weekly capacity of 432 truck trailers.
The catchment areas include Hungary, Slovakia and parts of Romania as well as the Ruhr region, Benelux and Great Britain on the Düsseldorf side.
Thanks to dedicated trains, skilled personnel, and fixed timetables, Helrom's trailer transport services deliver the same level of service quality and punctuality as road transport. Their system is adept at handling time-sensitive shipments such as food and automotive products without any disruptions. This setup provides an ideal solution for medium-sized companies looking to organize sustainable and flexible transport cost-effectively.
Roman Noack, CEO of Helrom, highlights the advantages: "By eliminating the need for special loading terminals and facilitating the quick and easy loading of non-craneable truck trailers and refrigerated trailers onto trains, we enable freight forwarders and shippers to enter the intermodal rail transport market without the need for additional investment."
With the new route, Helrom is continuing its mission to enable CO₂-neutral freight transport across Europe. In addition to reducing greenhouse gas emissions and easing the burden on road infrastructure, the Helrom transport concept also promotes socially responsible working conditions in transport logistics.
The combination of road and rail enables freight forwarders to focus more on short-haul routes, which is not only more efficient, but also makes it easier to plan working hours. This improves the compatibility of work and family life, which contributes to the attractiveness of the profession and can help alleviate the driver shortage in the long term.
