Australia, Vietnam and Bangladesh lead Valenciaport’s traffic increases in January



The docks of Valenciaport are moving at the pace of the Valencian and Spanish foreign trade sector. In this sense, January was a positive month for exporters, and this has been noted in the statistical indicators of the great infrastructure at the service of foreign trade that is the Port of Valencia, together with those of Sagunto and Gandia. Australia, Vietnam and Bangladesh led these increases in traffic at the Port Authority of València (PAV) in the first month of 2025. The Valenciaport Statistical Bulletin shows that container traffic with Australia grew by +98.89% in January, while with Bangladesh it grew by +95.29% and with Vietnam by 81.39%. China continues to be Valenciaport’s main trading partner with 67,475 TEUs exchanged with Asian ports (+53.19%) and 736,692 tonnes (+43.48%).


Likewise, the terminals of Valenciaport have confirmed in January that the export sector is in a phase of reactivation. After a period of stagnation (post-DANA), the Valencian terminals are returning to positive signs and increases in cargo traffic (full containers) leaving Valenciaport for other countries around the world. Specifically, according to the Valenciaport Statistical Bulletin for January, the traffic of full TEUs (containers of 6.1 metres in length) increased by +9.87% that month and the cumulative figure stands at +1.91%.


Overall, the companies working with Valenciaport handled 6.02 million tonnes through its terminals (-1.37%). In terms of containers, January’s traffic recorded 412,721 TEUs (twenty-foot containers), a growth of +5.43%.


In general, an analysis of the figures in the Bulletin shows growth in solid bulk traffics (+7.03%) and in unloading or import (+40.02%) while passenger traffics (-5.68%), vehicles (-42.10%) and maritime transit (-8.76%) have decreased. By sectors, it shows growth in non-metallic minerals (69.15%), chemical products (+21.99%), construction materials (+9.96%) and agri-food stuffs (+9.48%).
